These Cheesy Garlic Biscuits are filled with fresh garlic, chives, and of course lots of cheddar cheese! They are made in one bowl, you drop it on the pan, bake it and you’re all set!
I thought when I was growing up that maybe having bread with every single meal was a Southern thing. You always either had biscuits, those Pillsbury croissants or if you were really desperate, you toasted a piece of bread with butter, threw some garlic powder on it and called it a day.
However, as I’ve gotten older, I realize maybe it wasn’t a Southern thing. Maybe it’s just like, a smart person thing? I mean, why wouldn’t you have a big bowl of fresh steaming hot bread with every single meal? It just makes sense!
These Cheesy Garlic Biscuits are no exception! They are extra flavorful thanks to fresh garlic and chives and they somehow miraculously achieve being melt in your mouth but also crunchy?! It’s mind blowing but I ain’t gonna knock it.
When I first had a bite of one – that is, post photographing them (one of the hardest recipes I’ve ever had to shoot without eating one first!), they reminded me exactly of the cheddar biscuits you get as an appetizer at Red Lobster! Except way less greasy. And more flavorful. Win win!
The best thing about these biscuits is that they are SO SIMPLE. They remain true to the term “drop biscuits” – you mix the dough in one bowl and you “drop” it onto the pan with a spoon, drizzle some butter on them and they come out golden brown and utterly delicious!
Ingredients You’ll Need for Cheesy Garlic Biscuits:
- flour
- baking powder
- shredded cheese (you can use any kind but I used cheddar!)
- finely diced green onions
- fresh garlic
- butter!
How to Make Cheesy Garlic Biscuits:
Simplicity doesn’t even begin to describe how easy this recipe is. You begin by mixing your flour and baking powder together in a large bowl. Then, by either using a pastry cutter or your hands, mix your cold butter into the flour until it’s crumbly and incorporated.
Set that bowl aside as you very finely dice your green onions + garlic! You don’t want large chunks of these in each bite, but instead small bites nuanced throughout the entire biscuit. Cutting them finely will ensure that result. Mix in the green onions, garlic and cheese until well incorporated.
Next, take about 2-3 tablespoons of the mixture and plop it onto a sheet pan. My dough yielded 5 biscuits, but I wanted them a bit larger. Feel free to adjust the ratio of sizing to get the amount of you need – just make sure and keep an eye on them in the oven if they’re super small!
Now the good good. Drizzle some melted butter on top. YAS, BUTTER. This gives them an extra crunchy golden brown top.
Bake them! Your house will smell like a cheesy garlic biscuit candle. You’re welcome. When they’re done, pull ‘em out, brush them with MORE butter and eat them!
Y’all, when these are warm, they’re like soft little cheesy garlic biscuits full of love. Buttery, crunchy, cheesy but somehow super fresh cheesy garlic biscuits full of love. Yup, I’ll be bringing these to every Holiday get together this season.

Cheesy Garlic Biscuits
These Cheesy Garlic Biscuits are filled with fresh garlic, chives, and of course lots of cheddar cheese! They are made in one bowl, you drop it on the pan, bake it and you’re all set!
Ingredients
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 stems green onions, diced finely
- 2 cloves finely minced garlic
- 1/4 cup cold butter, cut into cubes
- 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup cold whole milk
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 425. Mix your flour and baking powder in a large bowl. Add in your cold butter and either use your hands or a pastry cutter and mix it in until it's incorporated with the flour - the mix needs to be somewhat crumbly.
-
To your dough, add in the cheese, chives and your milk. Mix until it's all incorporated. The dough should be pretty sticky.
-
To a baking sheet, I scooped out 2 tbsp worth of dough for each biscuit, shaping them into biscuits. Once all of the dough is on the pan, melt 2 tbsp butter in a small bowl. Brush it on the biscuits.
-
Bake at 425 for 15 minutes or until crunchy and golden. Once they are done, add more of the melted butter on top of the biscuits. Eat while warm! Enjoy!
Recipe Notes
This recipe yielded about 5 large biscuits for me. You can make the biscuits smaller to yield more - just make sure to watch them in the oven, as they will cook faster if they are smaller!
I made these for my mom. She was delighted. Thank you!
