These Salted Caramel Apple Hand Pies are the ultimate easy and delicious Fall treat!

Apple season is officially upon us and I’m so excited to be sharing this brand new recipe with you all!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe:

As a mom of two young children, I don’t have as much time to bake as I used to. So when it comes to baking recipes, I need something simple, easy and delicious! And my Salted Caramel Apple Hand Pies fit the bill!

These Hand Pies are easier than pie (haha!) thanks to both my favorite Jus-Rol Puff Pastry and Bonne Maman’s new Pie Fillings!

You all know that I love Jus-Rol puff pastry…I’ve used it for YEARS and I knew it would be the perfect vehicle for these pies. The pastry itself comes out golden brown and flaky every single time.

They use ultra high quality ingredients and I love that the puff pastry dough is refrigerated so I don’t need to thaw it.

But my favorite part? It comes rolled on parchment paper for minimal clean up! Oh YEAAAH!

And about that apple pie filling….

I’ve used Bonne Maman preserves for years on toast so I knew I had to try out their new Pie Fillings. I love how each jar is loaded with large pieces of fruit and minimal ingredients. It’s not overly sweet so the apples really shine through. Buying the pie filling is SO convenient!

When you pair the flaky puff pastry with Bonne Maman’s Apple Pie Filling – it’s truly a match made in Heaven!

Oh, and of course just to make it a little *fancy* I drizzled caramel on top along with some flaky sea salt. It’s reminiscent of your favorite Fair treat of caramel apples but easily made at home instead!

So let’s get into what you need to make it!

Ingredients You Need:

Jus-Rol Puff Pastry (2 packages) – you can find this in the refrigerated section in the dairy case at your local grocery store – here is a store locator for you to find it in stock near you!

Bonne Maman Apple Pie Filling (one jar) – you can find this in the baking section at your local grocery store!

Egg – used to make an egg wash for the top of the pastries!

Turbinado (raw) sugar + Cinnamon – I like sprinkling this on top of the pastries before I bake them.

Store Bought Caramel – feel free to make your own but for ease I used my favorite store bought.

Flaky Sea Salt – I like adding this to the pastries after drizzling the caramel to help balance the sweetness.

Step by Step Instructions on How to Make Hand Pies:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Take the Jus-Rol pastry and roll it out onto the parchment paper. Place on a baking sheet. Cut the puff pastry into 8 large equal size squares. It should look something like this:
  3. Add 2 tbsp of Bonne Maman’s Apple Pie Filling to the middle of the top 4 pastry squares, it should look something like this:JusRol puff pastry sliced into squares on the sheet pan
  4. Place the remaining pastry squares on TOP of the ones with the apple pie filling. JusRol puff pastry with apple pie filling on the sheet pan
  5. Line the pastries up and use a fork to crimp the edges shut.
  6. Poke a few holes in the top of the pastry with the fork to let it “breathe”.
  7. Whisk the egg in a bowl to make egg wash and then brush the egg wash over the pastries.
  8. Quickly mix together the turbinado sugar and cinnamon. Generously sprinkle it over the pastries.egg wash and turbinado sugar sprinkled over the pastries pre-baked on the sheet pan
  9. Bake for 16 minutes or until golden and fully cooked through. baked hand pie on sheet pan
  10. Repeat with the remaining Jus-Rol Puff Pastry package and Apple Pie Filling.
  11. Once they have mostly cooled, drizzle the caramel over top and then garnish with flaky salt. Enjoy!

Best Baking Tips:

This recipe makes 8 LARGE hand pies total. You will use two puff pastry packages and an entire jar of the apple pie filling. Feel free to halve the recipe and you will just need one package of puff pastry and half of the jar.

Make sure that the edges are lined up for the puff pastry squares. Be sure to use the fork to crimp the edges together WELL to make sure that no filling leaks.

Of course if a little bit of apple pie filling leaks out, it’s not the end of the world, but you would rather make sure it all stays warm and gooey inside the pastry!

The egg wash is a non-negotiable step! It really makes sure you get that shiny, golden brown top of the puff pastry that you’re looking for.

If you aren’t a fan of caramel, you can skip it fully and just generously sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on top of the pastries before baking.

Definitely let them cool down a good amount before you drizzle the caramel on them or else they will be a big mess!

If you find that the apple pies are too big to serve, you can cut them in half!

Storing Leftovers:

I personally think these are best eaten the day of when fresh out of the oven. However, if you find yourself with leftovers, I would store them in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator.

To re-heat, pop in the microwave or in the toaster oven until you reach your desired temperature.
