Many of you might know that every January, Benjamin and I join the popular crowd and participate in Dry January. No, we aren’t just trying to be like everyone else, but we realize that we always indulge a little bit tooo much over the holidays and really want to give our bodies a break.

This year, surprisingly, we have found it easier than in the past. Maybe it’s because I spent 10 months doing a dry January just a year and a half ago when I was pregnant OR maybe it’s because we have been creating delicious mocktails! Like this Pineapple Ginger Spritz!

What is a Mocktail?

If you aren’t keen on what a mocktail is, let me explain!

A mocktail is a specialty crafted drink that is served normally in a cocktail glass….SANS alcohol. It’s a great option for those who don’t drink, who are trying to cut back or just want to try something fun without spending the big bucks on liquor!

Why You’ll Love This Drink:

We are still in the bleak midwinter and I personally am needing some sunshine in my life! This drink is sunshine in a cup!

From the sweet PURE pineapple juice, incredibly fresh mint, orange juice and of course, fresh fruit…you have the perfect naturally sweet drink.

And of course, you could stop there but I think that mocktails always need a little somthing extra like BUBBLES!

For this drink, I love to use a spicy ginger beer! Keep in mind, these are non-alcoholic! They add the carbonation that you desire and of course, a lasting KICK in each gingery sip!

Combined all together, it’s delicious and I just know that you will gulp it down in just a few sips!

Ingredients You Need:

  • Fresh Pineapple – the riper the better!
  • Pure Pineapple Juice – Be sure to use 100% PURE pineapple juice, not cocktail.
  • Fresh Oranges – once again, the riper and sweeter, the better!
  • Pure Orange Juice (no pulp) – I like to use 100% pure orange juice without pulp for this recipe!
  • Spicy Ginger Beer – you can use regular ginger beer, just be sure that it’s high quality and non-alcoholic! I usually make sure that it doesn’t just say “ginger flavor” but has pure ginger in it. I really like Unknown Craft Ginger Ale!
  • Fresh Mint – a must for brightness in this drink!
  • Ice – to make sure the drink is nice and cold!

How to Make This Drink in 3 Simple Steps:

  1. Cut up the pineapple. You only need a little bit for this recipe so be sure to save the rest to snack on for the week in a tightly sealed container in the fridge. Slice up an orange into thin slices. Add both of these into a cocktail shaker along with fresh mint.
  2. Using the back of a spoon or a muddler, muddle the fruit and mint until mixed together and the fruit juices are flowing together. Add ice on top, followed by the pineapple juice and orange juice. Put the lid on the cocktail shaker and SHAKE it up until combined.
  3. Add ice (if desired) to your favorite cocktail glass. Strain the shaken cocktail over top of the ice. Stir to combine. Top with the ginger beer. Garnish with extra mint. Enjoy!

Ingredient Variations:

To add some tropical vibes, you could substitute the orange juice for coconut water.

I really think it’s worth the time to use fresh fruit for this recipe, but if you’re in a pinch, you could try canned pineapple.

If you’re not a fan of ginger beer, use club soda or a seltzer on top to add bubbles. I think a Key Lime LaCroix would work great on top of this!

Making it a Cocktail:

If you’re not participating in Dry January or you just want to add in some liquor, here are the few I would recommend:

  • White Rum
  • Dark Rum
  • Coconut Rum
  • Tequila

Cheers, my friends! Hope you love this one as much as I do!

  • 1/4 cup freshly diced pineapple (small chunks) - cut a little extra to garnish

  • 5-6 fresh fresh mint leaves
  • 2 oz 100% orange juice, no pulp
  • 4 oz 100% pineapple juice
  • 2-4 oz spicy ginger beer (non-alcoholic)

Instructions

  1. Slice the fresh pineapple into small chunks. You will use about 1/3 cup of it - save the rest in a tightly sealed container in the fridge to snack on during the week. Slice 1 orange into 4 slices.

  2. To a cocktail shaker, add 3 of the orange slices, 1/4 cup of the pineapple chunks and the fresh mint leaves. Use the back of a spoon to muddle it - aka make sure all of the juices of the fruit and mint are combined together.

  3. To the cocktail shaker, add in ice followed by the pineapple juice and orange juice. Place the lid on the shaker and shake it up.

  4. Grab your favorite cocktail glass and add ice if desired. Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker into the glass over the ice. Stir and then top with 2-4 oz of spicy non-alcoholic ginger beer until bubbly and delicious.
