Sharing a huge life update with y’all!

Hi friends! Goodness, it has been WAY too long since I have updated y’all on my personal life. These posts are some of my favorite to write but are few and far between.

My last one was when Jack was 6 months old, over a year ago! I seriously had plans to continue with updates regarding Jack and milestones but alas, anyone who has ever had a baby/toddler knows that time is limited! 😉

So let’s get into it!

Big News!

If you don’t follow me on Instagram, a couple weeks ago I spilled the beans that we are pregnant with baby #2! Yay! I’m 14 weeks along today.

We are overjoyed and so thankful to God that we were able to get pregnant again and that we will, Lord willing, get the opportunity to see Jack become a big brother!

Ben and I always knew that we wanted to continue to grow our family – but goodness, it is all going by so fast! It seems like just yesterday I was announcing we were pregnant with Jack.

They truly don’t lie when they say that the days are long and the years are short. That’s how I’m feeling right now!

First Trimester with Baby #2:

Finding out that I was pregnant with baby #2 was completely different than with Jack! With Jack, it took 2 weeks worth of negative tests to *finally* get a positive line!

With this baby, I actually tested a week earlier than I was supposed to and DARK dark lines appeared almost immediately.

I was shocked of course, and took a few more to be sure and sure enough, they were all positive and like I said, DARK.

This was in late September. I actually was only about 5 weeks pregnant, so I was *very* early on.

I bought this shirt for Jack months prior, in hopes that he would be able to wear it one day…and I put it on him the day I found out I was pregnant to surprise Ben.

Okay, let’s get into the nitty gritty regarding the first trimester.

First off, pregnancy is tough in general. Your body’s working overtime, you’re exhausted, you most likely have heartburn etc…..but pregnancy while chasing around a toddler?! Absolute insanity!

Aside from the times that I felt nauseous, which was often, there were times that I often forgot I was pregnant because I was just too busy living my normal life as a toddler mom/chasing Jack around, ha!

I had a friend tell me this and I thought it was so true – pregnancy with your first child consumes your identity and all you think about is the baby. Pregnancy with your second child is pure survival mode, LOL.

Main Symptoms I have felt so far:

  • Exhaustion – but is that because I just have a toddler and I am with him 24/7?! Ha, just kidding. Of course that plays into it I’m sure, but I know my body is also working overtime for baby #2! No wonder I’m tired!
  • Nausea – The nausea has been worse this time than with Jack. There were a couple weeks where I ended up having spicy ginger ale on hand to sip on because it got so bad. Thankfully that’s mostly over at this point! Praise the Lord!
  • Heartburn – oh the dreaded heartburn…why?! I am a savory foods lover and this pregnancy has been no different. I have loved all things cheesy, hot saucy, spicy etc. But they do not love me back!

And of course there are a few other symptoms I have had that I won’t mention here but yeah, the first trimester is TOUGH.

It was really tough in general – Ben and I were both working hard (me with Jack, him with his business and also hi, the blog you’re reading, lol!) and by the time Jack went down to sleep at night, I kid you not, there were times when we would go to bed at 8:30 PM.

We were both so physically and mentally exhausted. It was survival mode. This is how the house looked for the first couple months, LOL.

But of course, I am *SO* very thankful to God for giving me the gift of this baby and that makes any symptom, any exhaustion….it makes it all worth it to say the least.

I have definitely felt an increase in energy within this last week and as I said above, the nausea has almost completely subsided.

I’m ready and hopeful for the 2nd trimester – hoping for that “honeymoon” period of pregnancy that I had with Jack!

Update on Jack:

Speaking of Jack…how about an update on the cutest almost 2 year old on the planet?!

Jack turns 2 in February, which means that he and the baby will be about 2 years and 4ish months apart.

Since I have been pregnant, Jack has taken a huge interest in his 4 stuffed animals. He *never* played with them before.

But now – he tucks his “babies” in and he sleeps with them. He snuggles them and loves on them and it’s truly the most heartwarming thing to say.

He also recognizes that I’m pregnant and that there is a new baby coming into our family! The way he says “baby”….y’all. It’s literally the cutest thing in the world.

Jack is an incredibly tender hearted, sweet boy. He is very curious and loves to learn new things and “study” on them.

I’d say his favorite things (in order) are…..

  1. Ben (aka Dada)
  2. Me (aka Mama)
  3. Books
  4. Trucks/Construction Vehicles etc.

He is ALL boy ALL the time and it’s been so fun to learn who he is as his personality blossoms.

Some of his favorite foods include:

  1. Mac and Cheese
  2. Eggs
  3. Greek Yogurt
  4. Peanut Butter
  5. Any and every type of pouch – applesauce, yogurt etc.
  6. COOKIES! He loves a good cookie.

He is such a friendly guy, always waving to strangers and wanting to make new friends. I could honestly write an entire blog post just about how special he is.

If you have the privilege of knowing him, you know how wonderful he is and I just know he is truly going to be the BEST big brother.

Gender Reveal:

Speaking of brother….I guess I should finally reveal what you all clicked here for, right?!

We did end up doing the genetic testing again for this pregnancy. We weren’t going to but then my OB office had a great deal to get the testing done for ¼ of the price we paid for Jack…so we figured why not!

It was a fun little early Christmas present to ourselves to find out.

My final guess was that it was a boy. Ben thought it was a girl.

And it turns out……

I was truly in shock when we read the results! A girl! Oh my word. I told Ben I would have to relearn how to be a girl myself because my whole world has been trucks and wildness and all boy all the time the last 2 years.

We are so incredibly grateful and excited to bring our daughter into this world. We already pray that she will just be on fire for Jesus, love others around her and of course, love her family!

Whew! What a blog post. Lots to update y’all on.

With all of that being said, I just wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU. I started Our Balanced Bowl 6 years ago this year. It was a total leap of faith and if it wasn’t for you, my wonderful and dedicated readers, it wouldn’t be what it is today.

I’m so thankful that I get to develop, test and publish recipes that you all get to make for yourselves, your families, your friends…it truly warms my heart.

Thank you for supporting my family and this dream of a job for all of these years! Keep an eye out on my Instagram if you want to stay updated with my pregnancy and keep coming back here this month for all the yummy holiday food.

I hope you all have an incredible Christmas season, eat all the cookies, drink all the hot chocolate and find rest and peace in Jesus!

All the love,

Haylie (and Ben, Jack and Baby Girl)
