June Reflections

Hi friends – I hope you’re all doing well and staying safe during this time! Let’s jump right into what has been going on these past couple months!

If you didn’t notice (because let’s be honest, I’m not sure who actually takes the time to read these posts…) but I skipped May Reflections.

I wrote one out and I thought about posting it – but it just didn’t feel right. With so much going on in our country, it felt silly to post about what I was reading or my my favorite thing to eat, ya know? So it was nice to take some time to reflect and skip a month.

But then the end of June came and I thought to myself – writing these posts out bring me so much joy. It reminds me of why I started blogging in the first place – to connect with YOU!

My goal for my blog has always been to want to help people realize that balance is attainable – and I feel like by sharing both the good and the bad in my life on my blog is part of that. So…that being said, let’s get into it!

A Stroll in the Market

My friends at Garden Valley Market asked me and Ben to participate in a styled shoot. This of course brightened my day – like, wait what? We have been together almost 5 years and still qualify to be in a cool styled shoot? Definitely made my day.

Speaking of, the shoot was AH-MAZING. It was a cool breezy day, the sun was shining and it truly felt like life was back to normal.

It was so fun to feel like life almost took us back in time as we strolled through the market. Ben and I were laughing, being silly and in love.

Oh, and he was also making sure that my hair was out of my face. And I made sure that nothing was in his teeth. True love, right?

My favorites here are the peaches and the heirloom tomatoes – so good! There is NOTHING like a tomato sandwich – made with a juicy heirloom tomato, smothered in Duke’s mayonnaise on white bread. Yes please!

If you’re local to NC, I highly recommend checking out this market. It’s run by an amazing family and they have the best produce and customer service around!

Reads + Shows

As we all know, since we are cooped up in the house, I have definitely done my fair share of watching TV and reading. At the beginning of May when my library was still closed, I embarked on re-reading my favorite series of all time The Chronicles of Narnia!

So, now, even though my library is now open for curbside, I’m still making my way through these magical books. Even though they are children’s books, they have such a deep meaning and I would highly recommend going through them! Bonus? We bought this set in Oxford in a thrift store right beside the pub C.S. Lewis frequented. SO COOL.

Ben and I have been binge watching a show called Alone. It’s on Netflix and Hulu and WOWZA. It’s the most stressful show i think I’ve ever seen – yet I’ve now watched two seasons of it. Ha!

Basically, 10 survivalists are thrust into a different location in the middle of nowhere to try and survive the longest. And they are completely alone – like they film themselves, no camera crew etc.

It’s very wild and I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for something new and exciting to watch. You might not want to watch it if you get grossed out easily though!

Are you guys reading anything fun or watching anything bingeworthy? Let me know!!

What’s on the menu for Summer?

I don’t know about y’all, but I’m so excited that Summer is officially here and all the yummy food that goes along with it.

If you know me, you know that up until about 2 years ago, I didn’t even like fresh tomatoes. Now, I relish in them in the Summer! Below you will find a few of my favorite Summer recipes I’ve shared on OBB.

Heirloom Tomato Tart with Basil Sauce

Tortellini Pasta Salad

Whipped Ricotta Toast with Roasted Peaches

Mixed Berry Galette

What Summer food are you loving? For me, I think it’s a juicy peach! Ain’t nothing like eating a ripe, sweet, juicy peach with the juices dripping down your chin.

Lastly, I just wanted to say thank you for following here! It means so much if you’ve taken the time to read this post. Every single one of you matters to me! Please never be afraid to reach out if you need someone to talk to or if you have any questions for me. Until next month! XO – Haylie
