Guinness Beer Bread

This Guinness Beer Bread is SO delicious. It’s soft, sweetened with honey and the perfect amount of malty goodness. Best served warm with butter!

How is it already March?! This year is already going by so fast. I can’t even fathom it.

In fact, I’m pre-writing this blog post before our baby boy is even born – so when this is published, he will be in my arms! How insane is that?!

I personally love the month of March – you have Spring just around the corner, flowers blooming and of course, the always fun St. Patrick’s Day!

We don’t exactly drink green beer like we used to in college but Ben and I do love celebrating this fun holiday by making delicious food at home – like this Guinness Beer Bread!

I swear I could eat three slices of this in one setting. It’s that yummy!

Why You’ll Love This Bread:

First off – it’s a one bowl baking recipe, yes please! I’m all for ease and less dishes when it comes to baking.

Second – who doesn’t love the fact that you can have warm bread, without any yeast or rising or anything like that within an hour from start to finish?! It’s basically my dream world.

But really – If you’re a fan of Guinness beer, you’re going to just go crazy over this bread! I love a good Guinness. It’s dark, thick, rich and so delicious.

This bread is DENSE! Seriously! And it’s not overly sweet. The inside is fluffy, soft and each bite is just delightful.

I love the rich flavor of the Guinness in each bite – it really has that perfectly malty kick of Guinness. It’s not overly sweet because you add in only honey for sweetener!

The bread itself is super thick – and when sliced and warm, you smother it in butter + a drizzle of honey and pinch of salt and oh my word every slice is a dream.

It’s versatile – you can dip it in soup, crumble it in chili or have it as a mid day treat! So let’s get into how you make it 🙂

Ingredients You Need:

  • All purpose flour
  • Honey (or dark brown sugar)
  • Salt
  • Baking powder
  • Guinness beer
  • Melted butter

Best Bread Making Tips:

Start by preheating the oven to 375 degrees. Grab your favorite 9×5 baking loaf pan and generously grease it with butter. Trust me on the butter – it makes the outside super crunchy and delicious.

Set that aside for now and let’s get started on the batter!

To a large bowl, add flour, salt and baking powder. Mix together to make sure they are super combined – you want to make sure you don’t have pockets of baking powder in it but instead everything mixed together perfectly 🙂 trust me on this one!

Crack open the Guinness Beer and then pour it over the dry ingredients. It will foam up! Let the foam settle and then add in the honey. Mix mix mix until combined. It will look something like this:

And the batter is ready to go. SO simple, right?!

Add the batter directly to the greased loaf pan. Melt butter in a small bowl and then put it directly over the batter.

Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick can be inserted into the middle and it comes out clean.

Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes or so and then carefully remove it onto a cooling rack.

Let it cool for a few more minutes and then voila – time to slice! It’s best to eat warm with extra butter and of course, a drizzle of honey and pinch of salt. Yes.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup honey (can sub light brown sugar)
  • 12 oz Guinness Beer (I used an extra stout version)
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375. Generously grease a 9x5 inch loaf baking pan with butter. Set this aside.

  2. Grab a large bowl and mix the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt) together until they are fully combined! Be thorough on this step 🙂

  3. To the bowl, add in the Guinness Beer and let the foam settle. Then add in the honey. Mix mix mix with a wooden spoon until it's fully combined.

  4. Add the batter directly to the greased loaf pan.

  5. Melt 2 tbsp of butter in a small bowl and pour over the top of the batter in the pan to cover it.

  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until you can insert a toothpick into the middle and it comes out clean.

  7. Let rest in the pan for 5-10 minutes. Gently remove onto a wire cooling rack. Slice when ready and enjoy! I like mine best with butter and a drizzle of honey. Enjoy every bite!
