Loaded with fresh blueberries, this Blueberries and Cream Oatmeal are thick, creamy and so delicious! Top with a splash of cream to taste an elevated version of the childhood classic you love!

Alright – so, it’s no secret that here on Our Balanced Bowl that I love oatmeal! I try to do a seasonal recipe every season and since I’ve taken my shot at Peaches and Cream Overnight Oats and Strawberries and Cream Overnight Oats l…I figured why not Blueberries and Cream?!

I always loved the packets of oatmeal with the fruit/cream as a kid. They were always so incredibly creamy and SO super sweet.

So, I figured since it’s 2021 and January and hi I think we could all use a change up in our routine – let’s bring back something nostalgic and make it a little bit heartier but still taste AMAZING!

Why This Oatmeal is Amazing:

First off, it takes less than 10 minutes minutes to whip up – and even less if you want to use a microwave! I’m not the type to want to spend 30 minutes in the morning making breakfast, you know? I want to eat it ASAP! That’s why I usually make oatmeal – quick, healthy, yummy – it’s a win win!

I specifically love this recipe because of the fresh blueberries! To me, nothing is better than WARM blueberries. I love how they burst in your mouth – it’s such a pop of ultra delicious flavor like nothing else!

I also love this recipe because it’s super versatile! If you want to use whole milk, do it! Cashew milk? Yes please! Oat milk? Oats on oats yessss!

Not a fan of honey? Try out maple syrup! Or leave it completely unsweetened and just use the blueberries for natural sweetness.

I love how warm and cozy this oatmeal is! It’s incredibly thick, so creamy but not like stick to the top of your mouth glue like some oatmeal can be.

The warm blueberries scattered throughout the oatmeal combined with the yummy toppings make my day start out SO good. It pairs perfectly with your favorite slippers and a big mug of coffee!

So let’s get into what you need to make it!

Ingredients You Need:

  • Quick oats
  • Milk of your choice
  • Honey (or sweetener of your choice)
  • Vanilla extract
  • Cinnamon
  • Fresh blueberries
  • Heavy cream
  • Oatmeal garnishes

Best Oatmeal Making Tips:

I use quick oats for this recipe – I feel like they obviously cook quicker and are more creamy. Note that this recipe will take longer to make if you use rolled oats and DEFINITELY take waaay longer if you use steel cut oats.

So, if you want to use another type of oat – be sure to follow the package instructions on how to cook them and adjust the timing accordingly.

I also used non-dairy milk, oat milk, in fact, because it’s what I had in my fridge! I often use whole milk instead – you just have to be sure that the whole milk doesn’t scorch!

So – what I did for this particular recipe is add the oats, milk, honey, vanilla extra and the blueberries into a small pot on the stove. Stir together to combine and place the stove eye on medium heat.

Stir every so often, making sure the oatmeal isn’t sticking.

If desired, you can use the spoon that you’re stirring with to pop the blueberries! It makes a beautiful streaked purple color in the oatmeal – just be careful to not get it on your clothes! Ha 😉

Cook for 5-7 minutes or until the oatmeal reaches your desired consistency. I like mine a little bit thinner than normal.

Next, dish it out! This particular recipe makes 2 servings. Eat while warm and enjoy with a hot cup of tea or joe!

Oatmeal Garnish Ideas:

  • Sliced almonds
  • Chia seeds
  • Extra blueberries
  • Honey/maple syrup
