This Blood Orange Mojito is the best way to celebrate citrus season! Loaded with freshly squeezed blood orange juice, this cocktail is incredibly fresh, simple and so delicious!
Another season, another cocktail! I try to make my cocktails seasonally to keep things extra fun around here on OBB. For example, during Christmas I made my Gingerbread White Russian. In the Fall, I made a Spiced Apple Cider Spritz and last Summer I celebrated peach season by creating my Peach Thyme Spritzer!
It’s so fun getting to create new cocktails, especially since most of us aren’t exactly going out for a drink during this time.
And since Winter can be a dreary time, what better way to brighten things up than to make a Blood Orange Mojito?!
What is a Mojito?
A mojito is a classic cocktail that you can find in almost every place to get a drink! Traditionally, it’s a drink that is made with white rum, fresh lime, mint, sugar to taste and usually either club soda or plain seltzer to top.
It’s incredibly fresh, super refreshing and a delicious cocktail! Not to mention SIMPLE! I always love when cocktails don’t need a million different types of liquor or ingredients or mixers – and this one fits the bill for sure!
Why You’ll Love this Drink:
2 words: BLOOD ORANGES. These are an incredibly beautiful citrus that is pretty much only available during the Winter but wow – when they are available, I always buy several bags!
As you can see, they are absolutely gorgeous on the inside – they’re dark red and incredibly juicy.
For this recipe, you use freshly squeezed blood oranges for the pink tint to this drink – making it a perfect option for Valentine’s Day!
The blood oranges go perfectly with the fresh, zippy flavor of the mint. The lime also pairs perfectly as does the simple syrup!
It’s a smooth drink with a tangy pucker thanks to the fresh citrus! The club soda adds the perfect fizzy top and you have to garnish it with a slice of fresh blood orange 🙂
So enough talking – let’s get into what you need to make it!
Ingredients You Need:
- White rum
- Blood oranges
- Fresh mint
- Club soda (or plain seltzer)
- Simple syrup
How to Make Mojito:
First, it’s always good to have a simple syrup. You can make it plain by combining just equal parts sugar and water. Turn the pot on medium heat and begin stirring it until the sugar dissolves in the water and it becomes one. Let it cool off. And voila – tasty sugar syrup!
To save glasses, I like to muddle the mint in the bottom of my cocktail shaker. Muddle about 8-10 pieces of mint, or about a bunch, depending on how much you want!
Add in the freshly squeezed blood orange juice as well as the white rum, freshly squeezed lime juice, and plain simple syrup. Shake shake shake! Strain into your favorite glass and add ice if desired. If you love fresh mint, don’t strain it! Top with club soda and you’re all set!
This drink is just simple, refreshing and one of my favorite ways to enjoy a fun date night at home! I hope you guys try it and enjoy! XO – Haylie
